Germany’s deal to buy the Russian Sputnik V vaccine is terminated, however Russia will be sending India some 360 million doses of Sputnik V, bne IntelliNews reports.
Germany and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) have been negotiating for several months on a deal for a potential supply and production for Germany, but according to the German newspaper Bild, the accord is dead.
After Sputnik V was registered with the European regulator, German heads of state in Bavaria, Berlin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia, were advocating in favor of the Russian-made vaccine.
Germany and the rest of the EU have said they are not purchasing the vaccine until it has been approved by the European Medical Agency (EMA), which started carrying out trials in March, but has been accused of dragging its heels for political reasons.
Despite the rejection by the European Union and Germany, Russia still makes sure its vaccines are largely available to many poor countries around the world.
Close to 360 million Indian citizens will be vaccinated with the Russian Sputnik V by the end of March 2022 as the nation will have received 361mn doses of vaccine, according to information shared by officials coordinating the entire vaccine measure.
