UNICEF is delivering 55 power generators in February to make sure that children and their families can receive emergency medical care despite power outages, a press release writes.

The Emergency Assistance and Disaster Medical Centers in the oblasts of Dnipropetrovska, Zaporizka, Kirovohradska, Lvivska, Odeska, Cherkaska, and Chernihivska will be able to function without interruption thanks to these generators. These Centers handle 90,000 calls on average each month.

Ensuring access to critical services for children is imperative and must be guaranteed at all times. During emergencies, such as attacks, ambulances receive an overwhelming number of emergency calls. It is crucial that children receive timely aid, regardless of power cuts. Generators play a vital role in saving time and lives, as they allow for the swift dispatch of medical teams to respond to emergency calls. UNICEF Ukraine Deputy Representative, Douglas Hageman, affirmed their commitment to providing necessary supplies to guarantee access to healthcare for children.

The power supply is necessary to support the dispatch services used by Emergency Assistance and Disaster Medical Centers. Emergency treatment depends on prompt communication and coordination between the centers and the ambulance teams.

Maria Karchevych, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Health, stated that they and their international partners had been working to ensure autonomous power sources for their facilities since the beginning of the war. She added that each generator presented an opportunity for emergency centers to continue providing emergency medical care to everyone in need under any conditions.

The generators were provided thanks to the generous donations and ongoing support of the European Union, the Republic of Korea, and USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Support for the people of Ukraine (BHA). Thanks to funding from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, the EU, the Republic of Korea, Spain, the UK, and USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, UNICEF will provide more than 300 generators to healthcare facilities this year (BHA).
