Moldova has been forewarned by a top Russian ambassador that stronger military ties with the West may be disastrous, Japanese media outlet NHK reports.

Moldova is a neighbor of Ukraine, and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin discussed it in an interview with Russian official media that was published on Saturday. Relationships with the Commonwealth of Independent States, or CIS, are under his control.

Galuzin claimed that stronger Moldovan ties to NATO do not increase the country’s security but rather push it closer to disaster.

Additionally, he stated that Moldova should be able to clearly see Ukraine’s tragic experience.

Earlier, the chief of the Moldovan intelligence service warned the country’s media that Russia may attack it early the next year.
