the 5th Global Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) Meeting, which will take place in Armenia from October 5 to 7, attended by leaders of global health organizations, ministers of health from various nations, specialists in disaster preparedness, and other dignitaries. More than 500 delegates from almost 100 different nations and organizations will be present at the high-level international EMT Meeting in Yerevan.
Since the World Health Organization’s (WHO) EMT Initiative was established, four international conferences have been held to bring together the network of EMT providers, member states, and partners to help direct the Initiative and foster cooperation and support from the various member states and partners.
The primary goal of the first four international conferences, held in Geneva, Panama, Hong Kong, and Bangkok, was to spark the growth of a worldwide network.
These gatherings were crucial in determining the initiative’s course and winning the support of all parties engaged in the EMT surge response.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fifth global gathering, which was originally scheduled for 2021, was postponed until 2022.
Per the World Health Organization (WHO) the Global Meeting will feature the following key events:
- A high-level roundtable discussion at the presence of WHO Director General, Regional Director of the WHO European Region, Ministers of Health and/or other senior governmental representatives, Intergovernmental organizations
- Meetings of the EMT regional groups across WHO’s six regions, as the main forum for Member-States, EMTs and other stakeholders to drive regional implementation of the EMT Initiative
- Meetings on EMT emergency operations, standard setting, research, and capacity building.
- Consultations on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergencies.
- Exhibitions from EMTs, a first in the EMT Global Meeting
