Azerbaijan sends new batches of humanitarian aid to quake-torn Türkiye

While help continues to flood into Türkiye as a result of the twin earthquakes that struck the country’s southern regions last week, Azerbaijan said on Thursday that it had dispatched another shipment of humanitarian aid to the nation, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to a statement by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, another shipment of humanitarian aid has been sent to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Türkiye on Monday, at the direction of Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.

The 105 tons of humanitarian aid, which includes heaters and tents, is being carried to the area by plane, according to the statement, as part of the foundation’s activities since February 9.

Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry reported that 53 persons were pulled from the wreckage in the Kahramanmaras area as a result of search and rescue efforts, while 729 bodies were found and turned over to the appropriate authorities.

Since February 6th, Kahramanmaras has been the site of at least 745 rescue operations involving medical professionals.

Two powerful earthquakes that rattled southern Türkiye on February 6 were responsible for at least 36,187 fatalities, the nation’s disaster agency reported on Thursday.

Upwards of 13 million people in 11 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, Sanliurfa, and Elazig, were impacted by the magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, which were concentrated in the Kahramanmaras province.

The powerful earthquakes that hit Türkiye in less than 10 hours were noticed in a number of neighboring nations, including Syria and Lebanon.

Additionally, on Thursday, 25 containers of humanitarian aid were transferred from the Bilajari railway station in Azerbaijan to Turkey, Trend reported.

Bilajari held a see-off ceremony where Turkish Ambassador to Baku Cahit Bagci and Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Rovshan Rustamov.

The people devastated by powerful earthquakes in 10 regions of the friendly nation will get humanitarian aid via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line.
