The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine supports government agencies in continuing to provide social services to Ukrainians, according to UNDP.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine will be able to keep operating the registers and information systems that are essential for providing social services to citizens despite power outages thanks to the purchase of strong generators funded by Sweden.
The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, as well as the state companies “Diia” and “Information and computing center of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine” received four generators with a 12 kVA capacity.
The primary custodians of the registries necessary for the delivery of public services in the nation, especially online government services, are these institutions.
According to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, the purchase of generators will support the efficient work of teams from the state bodies in charge of managing the key registers used for the delivery of public services under regular power outages.
The registers kept by experts from state-owned enterprises are crucial for a variety of well-known social services and benefits, such as, for example, registering for housing subsidies, as stated by Oksana Zholnovych, Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy.
Additionally, the Ministries received filters, collapsible water containers, heaters, blankets, and coats. These will be useful in creating secure locations where ministry workers can conduct business during air raid sirens.
According to Christophoros Politis, Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP in Ukraine, it is crucial for UNDP to support the Ukrainian government in its efforts to safeguard civilians throughout the conflict as part of its strategic partnership with Sweden.
One of the UNDP’s top priorities is supporting government electronic registers, and to that end, it is persistently collaborating with government partners to ensure that they run smoothly. The construction of the IT infrastructure and electronic registries for the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice was specifically sponsored earlier by UNDP and Sweden. They gave the ministry assistance, including new computer hardware and technical support, in order to digitize access to important papers.
The Digital, Inclusive, Accessible: Support to Digitalization of Public Services in Ukraine Project (DIA Support Project), which is being carried out by UNDP in Ukraine with money from Sweden, served as the basis for the implementation of this program.
The project, which was started in 2021, intends to close the digital gap between different social classes and generations. Its main objective is to make innovative digital solutions more widely available so that everyone in Ukraine can enjoy electronic services without being left behind.
