Record Streak for the Most Games Played in KHL Finishes at 291 Appearances

The record streak of the “Avangard” striker Kirill Semyonov at KHL was interrupted at 291 matches, as informed by Bookmaker Ratings. Semyonov was not included in the teams’ application form for the fourth match of the Gagarin Cup final series against CSKA. The player was injured in the previous game. He didn’t appear in the third period of that match.

The record of all the Russian championships, not only the KHL, is the Alexey Vasiliev achievement. He never missed a game from the 12th of September 2001 to the 29th of November 2008, playing 479 in a row. A record for the attackers was set by Sergei Mozyakin: he played 362 matches from 7th of September 2005 to 24th of February 2011. The KHL was established in 2008, so the “Avangard” player has set a new record for the league.

Without Semyonov, “Avangard” was finally able to win at the home arena for the first time since the second round of the Gagarin Cup. Before that, all the victories in the eastern conference came from the games in Kazan.

For the 26-year-old Semyonov, this season is the 4th in the “Avangard” shirt. Previously he played at “Metallurg” (Novokuznetsk). At 60 regular-season games striker scored 26 (10+16) points, in playoffs – 8 (4+4) in 21 games.

The final series of the Gagarin Cup between CSKA and “Avangard” closes this Kontinental Hockey League season. The KHL playoff series continues until one of the teams claims 4 wins, and this can already happen in the sixth game, on April 28. This Thursday, the best teams of the East and the West might decide the faith of the Gagarin Cup in Balashikha. The game starts at 19:00 (MSK).
