Sheremetyevo International Airport won the Russian Air Gate 2020 National Award in the Best Airport by Journalists’ Vote category. It also came out on top in the Inauguration of the Year category for commissioning the third independent runway, the airport’s press service said.
The award ceremony was held as part of the business section of the NAIS 2020 VII National Exhibition of Civil Aviation Infrastructure and timed to coincide with the Civil Aviation Workers’ Day.
Andrey Nikulin, First Deputy General Director for Production at SIA JSC, accepted the award in the Inauguration of the Year category on behalf of Sheremetyevo airport.
“These days, Sheremetyevo is one of the ten largest airports in Europe. It is still growing and developing every year, but the most significant goal for us is to be the leading provider of high-quality passenger service. We are grateful to our passengers and the expert council of the Russian Air Gate Award for recognizing our systematic work on the development of airport infrastructure and improvement of services for passengers and airlines,” he said.
For Sheremetyevo, the recognition as the best airport by journalists’ vote is testimony to the extensive coverage of the airport’s activities in the Russian media.

Thanks to our joint efforts, Sheremetyevo Airport is now the leader in the Russian medial,” Anna Zakharenkova, Head of Public Relations at SIA JSC, pointed out.
Sheremetyevo International Airport is in the TOP-10 airport hubs of Europe, the largest Russian airport in terms of passenger and cargo transportation. In 2019, Sheremetyevo airport served 49.933 million passengers—an 8.9% increase over the 2018 figures.
2018 saw Sheremetyevo top the ASQ ACI program’s ranking for customer service among the largest airports in Europe whose passenger traffic exceeded 40 million per year and enter the list of the world’s best airports, ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence.
