Germany Says Escalations and Conflicts on Nord Stream 2 ‘Successfully Avoided’

The question of whether the Nord Stream will be completed may be resolved in the next 12 months, said the head of the German Ministry of Economy and Energy Peter Altmaier, speaking at the 25th Potsdam Meetings conference.

“The issue of completion or non-completion of Nord Stream 2 is one of those that may be resolved in the next 12 months,” the minister said.

He added that the German government “has so far successfully overcome all possible escalations and conflicts in this regard.”

The question of completing Nord Stream 2 depends on the builders, all the permissions of the German and European regulators are in place, said Peter Altmeier, the head of the German Economy and Energy Ministry, speaking at the 25th Potsdam Meetings conference.

The minister says that he is not an engineer, and that the issues present are not a resul tof a lack of permits, as Germany had so far obtained many permits, alongside the Scandinavian countries where the energy company is laying the pipes. A small section is still missing, Altmeier said, adding that the completion of the construction “depends on the speed of the pipe-laying work.”

Altmeier added that he is unable to make any estimates as this was not his task.
