Russia attacks Ukrainian energy grid again

One of Moscow’s biggest aerial assaults took place early on Thursday when scores of Russian missiles were fired into Ukraine, hitting Kyiv and other cities like Lviv in the west and Odesa in the southwest. This attack on Ukraine’s energy grid caused widespread power outages and sent residents running for cover, Euractiv reports.

Out of the 69 missiles Russia launched, the Ukrainian military claimed to have intercepted 54 of them. For five hours, the air raid sirens wailed throughout Kyiv, the country’s capital. Upwards of 120 missiles were launched during the assault, according to prior reports from officials.

Emergency personnel could be seen sifting through the smoldering remains of Kyiv residences that had been devastated by a blast and missile smoke trails in a Reuters video.

Firefighters battled to put out a sizable fire at a power plant in Kharkiv, the second-largest city in Ukraine. Houses were destroyed and a missile caused a sizable crater in the southern central city of Zaporizhzhia.

The military of Ukraine said that Russia had fired anti-aircraft missiles, cruise missiles, and air-to-surface missiles targeting energy infrastructure sites in the eastern, central, western, and southern areas. The assaults came after “kamikaze” drones had attacked earlier that day.

According to a statement from the defense ministry, the most recent strikes destroyed more than 18 residential structures and 10 important infrastructure sites.

Numerous people have been left without heat and electricity in often-freezing weather as a result of Russian bombings targeting the energy grid in recent months.
