The United States started transferring $9.9 billion in direct budget support to the Government of Ukraine this week through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the Departments of the Treasury and of State, a press release states.
This assistance, made possible by Congress, builds on the $13 billion in fiscal support the United States gave to Ukraine over the previous year and shows the country’s sustained commitment to helping it defend itself against Russia’s violent and unprovoked invasion.
Budgetary support from the United States will enable Ukraine to keep providing vital services and meeting the needs of its citizens despite the savage war being waged by the Kremlin.
With the help of this financing, the government of Ukraine is able to offer emergency services for internally displaced people and pay public servants who work in a variety of public institutions, including healthcare, first aid, and education.
As a result of Russia’s aggression against the Ukrainian people, economic activity has been severely hindered, and in 2022, the Ukrainian economy will have contracted by almost 30%, significantly cutting key revenue sources. The Ukrainian government can continue to carry out essential duties and lay the groundwork for the nation’s recovery thanks to U.S. direct budget support as well as aid from other Allies and partners.

After expenses have been confirmed, U.S. direct budget support is disbursed through the World Bank to speed up funding distribution to the Ukrainian government and ensure accountability.
