Mukhtar Yerman, the secretary of Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission (CEC), attended a roundtable on best practices for putting election recommendations into effect on October 27 in Bishkek at Matteo Mecacci’s invitation, according to the CEC press office on October 30, The Astana Times reported.
During the sessions, election body representatives from Albania, Armenia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan exchanged experiences.
During a national referendum in Kazakhstan on June 5, the ODIHR mission gave the CEC’s work a favorable review, which Yerman acknowledged in his speech.
The national referendum commission, as well as the territorial and precinct commissioners, were given the resources they needed and operated efficiently, quickly, and to a large extent transparently, according to the ODIHR statement. To make the referendum accessible to voters with impairments, long-awaited steps were completed.
During his meeting with Urszula Gacek, the head of the ODIHR election observation mission, CEC Chair Nurlan Abdirov offered members of the mission to participate in meetings and training sessions hosted by the CEC, according to Yerman.
From October 28 to 30, additional CEC members conducted seminars with local election commissions, state agencies, campaign headquarters, political parties, and the media in the regions of Kostanai, Akmola, and West Kazakhstan. The workshops concentrated on the practicalities of election preparation.
