Georgia Prime Minister Talks Economy, Energy with Saudi Crown Prince

Georgia and Saudi Arabia are agreeing on a number of matters related to the economy, investment, energy, and security, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have underscored in a joint statement Thursday marking the end of Garibashvili’s three-day official visit to Riyadh.

Georgian prime minister kicked off talks by pointing out that Georgia supports Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo and has expressed his trust in the Kingdom’s ability to host such an event that would provide a full-fledged experience to the visitors.

The sectors of economy and investment were among the first discussed matters with both sides underscoring the importance of strengthening the trade and raising the level of joint investments between their two nations.

Saudi Arabia and Georgia also agreed to form the joint Saudi-Georgian Business Council.

The statement said that both sides praised the private sector’s pivotal role in the economic cooperation and underscored the importance of creating suitable investment conditions for the private sector in both countries, agreeing to take advantage of the investment opportunities provided by both Georgia’s developmental priorities in various promising fields – renewable energy, agriculture, production, and tourism- as well as of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

With regard to the energy sector, both Georgia and Saudi Arabia strive to strengthen cooperation in different fields including innovative uses for energy efficiency and hydrocarbon resources.

Offering support for the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and The Middle East Green Initiative, Garibashvili welcomed the Kingdom’s efforts in mitigating the impact of climate change.

As for the oil markets, the Georgian PM welcomed Saudi efforts in maintaining the market’s balance with both leaders agreeing on the importance of stability in the global oil market.

Another field in which the Saudi and Georgian delegations agreed on strengthening cooperation is the industrial and mining fields but they also agreed to boost cooperation in agriculture, transport, aviation, tourism, technology, health, and education.
