Azerbaijan Increases Industrial Products by 4.3% This Year

In January 2023, Azerbaijan has increased the volume of industrial products by 4.3 percent, totaling AZN 6.5 bn ($3.8bn), Azerbaijan’s State Statics Committee’s data shows.

The production in the non-oil-and-gas sector grew by 2% during the reported period, while production in the oil-and-gas sector decreased by 4.9 percent.

The strongest growth dynamics, as the data shows, have been observed in the production of leather, leather products, shoes, wood, and wood products, which increased by 2.9 times.

The data also shows that the largest portion of industrial products – some 74,1 percent – came from the mining sector, followed by the manufacturing sector with 20,5 %, the above-mentioned oil and gas sector (production, distribution, and supply of electricity, gas, and steam) with 4,9% and the sector of water supply, waste management, and remediation activities with 0,5 percent.

The detailed analysis showed that within the machine and equipment production, an increase of 80,3 % was recorded.

Next on the list are polygraphy products (75,6%), production of paper and cardboard (4,9%) computer, electronic and optical products (44,6 %) electrical equipment (30,9%) clothes production (25,4%), beverage industry production (24,1%), production of construction materials (20,7%), textile industry products (17,5%), and the production of automobiles, trailers, and semi-trailers (7,9%).

Pharmaceutical industry production, meanwhile, has recorded the strongest decreasing dynamics of 45,5 percent whereas the fall observed at installation and maintenance activities of machines and equipment was 49,8 percent.

The analysis also shows a downward trend in metallurgical industrial products (37,7%), finished metal products (24,5%), furniture production (18,6%), chemical industrial products (18,1%), oil products (9,0%) tobacco products ( 4,2%), plastic products (2,6%) and food industry products (0,1%).
