According to TurkStat, tourist revenue in Turkey increased by 27.1% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, Anadolu Agency reported citing data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute.
In the months of July through September, the nation’s tourist industry brought in close to $18 billion, up from $14.1 billion during the same time last year.
In the three months leading up to September, Turkey received more than 21.1 million tourists, up 54% over the same period last year. Around 2.4 million, or 11.3%, of Turkish nationals, lived abroad.
In the third quarter, tourists’ average nightly spending was $89 and their average daily expenditure was $855.
Official statistics show that individual expenses made for $12.6 billion of the overall tourist revenue over the course of three months, while package tour expenses accounted for around $5.4 billion of the earnings.
Over 2 million Turkish nationals traveled overseas in the third quarter, an increase of 137.3% from the previous quarter. They spent $534 on average each.
Turkey’s tourist industry generated more than $35 billion between January and September, an increase of 67.9% annually.
According to a separate announcement from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 34.8 million foreigners visited Turkey in the first nine months of this year. Comparing this period to the previous year, the number virtually doubled.
