FAS Warns Apple of Abusing Dominant Market Position

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has warned Apple for exploiting its formidable presence in the distribution market for iOS software, according to a report published on Monday.

The Russian FAS warns Apple to remove any evidence of infringement. According to the statement, Apple must comply with it by September 30, 2021, TASS reports.

The anti-monopoly regulator reported receiving complaints from iOS users and application developers regarding situations when it was cheaper to purchase products on a seller’s website, but they later noticed the fine print on iPhone or iPad applications, upon checking in under their account.

As a result, Apple receives a fee ranging from 15% to 30% on each payment made in the App Store, but customers are restricted from seeing about the option of making a purchase outside of the App Store.

Apple says it is illegal to advise app users about an alternate way of payment for an item, according to the App Store’s necessary standards for iOS app developers to comply. This involves any type of information, such as links to the developer’s website or a service or registration form that leads to the website in a browser.
