More Than 379,000 Tonnes of Cargo and Mail Handled at Sheremetyevo in 2019

Sheremetyevo International Airport has summed up the results of cargo production activity for 2019. The total volume of cargo handled at the airport amounted to over 329,000 t, and mail, 49,500 t. The volume of freight traffic in 2019 grew by 6.9%, and the volume of mail handled grew by 37.4% compared to 2018.

The main cargo operator at Sheremetyevo Airport, Moscow Cargo LLC, handled more than 275,000 t of cargo and mail, showing a 12% growth compared to 2018.

Moscow Cargo continues to strengthen its position as a leader among Russian cargo aviation complexes steadily increasing its share: in 2019, the company handled 72.5% of the total cargo and mail turnover of Sheremetyevo Airport, 48.3% of the total MOW airports cargo turnover, and 23.4% of the total volume of air cargo transportation in Russia.

The total volume of cargo handled at Sheremetyevo increased both on domestic and international air lines (DAL and IAL). As compared to 2018, the DAL freight turnover grew by 7% and amounted to more than 86,000 t, IAL, by 6.7%, more than 243,000 t. The growth in the volume of DAL transfer cargo amounted to 16.4%, the airport’s press service said.

The increase in IAL volume at Sheremetyevo in 2019 was facilitated by the growth of transportation by Russia’s largest air cargo carriers that are serviced at the Moscow Cargo terminal—PJSC Aeroflot, Rossiya Airlines, and AirBridgeCargo.

Of the total volume of IAL import processed in the Moscow Cargo terminal, e-Commerce cargo makes up 23.7%, and their share is constantly growing.

Moscow Cargo LLC processed over 43,000 t of mail. The increase in annual performance was largely due to the launch of new logistics projects implemented jointly with PJSC Aeroflot and Russian Post.

The main external routes, which in 2019 accounted for over 50% of the total cargo traffic, are China, Germany, USA, the Netherlands, and Italy. The largest growth in the volume of export and transit cargo transportation in 2019 was recorded on the international routes to Liège (LGG), Columbus (LCK), and Milan (MXP) as well as on the domestic Far East routes—Vladivostok (VVO), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (UUS), and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (PKC). In terms of import and transit by the end of 2019, the highest growth was achieved in the following directions: Shenzhen (SZX), Chicago (ORD), Seoul (ICN), and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN).

The intensive pace of development, modern cargo infrastructure, and high level of digitization of internal technological processes of Moscow Cargo LLC were acknowledged by the aviation community. In 2019, the Moscow Cargo terminal won the prestigious Eurasian Aviation Marketing Award in the special category “For the Launch of the Most Modern and High-Tech Cargo Terminal in the Eurasian Region”.
