According to the Commerce and Investment Factsheet published by the UK Department for International Trade last week, the trade volume between Kazakhstan and the UK increased by 63.3%, reaching US$2.6 billion, The Astana Times reported.
According to the research, total commerce in goods and services (imports plus exports) between the UK and Kazakhstan reached $2.6 billion in the four quarters leading up to the end of the second quarter of 2022, up $1,06 billion, or 63.3%, over the same period in 2021.
A large portion of the increase—135.9%, or more than US$1 billion—was attributable to a jump in exports from Kazakhstan to the UK. Between July 2021 and June 2022, exports as a whole came to around US$1.8 billion.
Over the same period, imports from the United Kingdom to Kazakhstan increased by $16.6 million, or 1.8 percent, totaling US$925 million.
In the four quarters leading up to the end of Q2 2022, Kazakhstan was the UK’s 62nd-largest trading partner, accounting for 0.2% of all UK trade, according to the factsheet.
