Millions of Ukrainians are under grave peril from the hard winter. As a result of deliberate attacks on the nation’s energy infrastructure, many people are without heat and electricity, a press release from the Government of Switzerland writes.
The next shipment of 40 heaters and an equal number of generators is being prepared by Switzerland for the people of Ukraine. Today, the lorries carrying this equipment departed for Ukraine.
Millions of Ukrainians have already been suffering for 10 months as a result of the war, and the winter is making their situation worse. Numerous homes are now without electricity, water, or other essential services as a result of the ongoing deliberate strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Many people worry that they won’t have heat this winter.
Switzerland is currently providing Ukraine forty heaters and the same number of generators after delivering thirty generators last week. The goods were purchased in Switzerland, and their transportation was coordinated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). They will be given to the civil defense officials in Ukraine and put to use in tents or sizable areas where locals can gather to get warm. The Swiss government is presently examining the potential for sending extra disaster aid.
These deliveries are a component of a larger strategy to assist the Ukrainian populace in surviving this winter. The plan, which was formally unveiled at a meeting in Paris on December 13 by President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis, calls for support for initiatives targeted at quickly restoring Ukraine’s electrical infrastructure and housing stock. Additionally, a number of SDC-backed projects have been modified to accommodate winter requirements. Switzerland allocated CHF 100 million in November, and the Parliament gave its approval in December.
