NATO’s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, turned out the lights in support of Ukraine along with other world sites, the alliance said in a press release.

The program is a part of the “Lights for Ukraine” initiative that the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United 24 platform announced. It will continue till December 31st, 2022.

The goal is to raise money for generators for Ukrainian hospitals and to raise awareness of the situation there, particularly the widespread blackouts brought on by Russia’s massive attacks on vital infrastructure that have left the population in desperate situations with no access to running water or electricity as winter approaches.

The UN Charter’s protection of Ukraine’s right to self-defense is being upheld with the aid of NATO allies. Unprecedented assistance has already been sent to Ukraine, including gasoline, generators, winter clothes, and equipment to fix energy networks.

At the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bucharest in November, allies reiterated their ongoing support for Ukraine and announced new commitments as part of NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine.
