HP Inc. gave 5,000 laptops to USAID, who then distributed them to aid the education of internally displaced Ukrainians, an USAID press release reads.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Maryna Popatenko and USAID/Ukraine Mission Director James Hope were present in Kyiv for the delivery of the equipment.

The laptops were given as part of HP’s $30 million partnership with the Global Business Coalition for Education’s Digital Equity for Ukraine initiative, which will provide over 74,000 laptops to internally displaced Ukrainians and Ukrainian refugees in surrounding nations.

Microsoft has also supplied laptop software. The gift is the result of USAID actively working with the private sector to support Ukraine, especially by helping to meet a crucial demand for laptops so that Ukrainian youth can continue their education during the war.

Education professionals and students all around the nation are facing enormous difficulties as a result of Putin’s ruthless assault against Ukraine.

According to UNICEF’s Humanitarian Action for Children, thousands of schools have been damaged or destroyed, and up to 2.8 million children may have been forced out of their homes.

Despite the fact that distance learning restarted two weeks after the full-scale invasion started, many young people still struggle to access online learning opportunities due to a lack of devices and increasingly frequent Russian attacks on infrastructure that supports civil life. 175,000 laptops and 202,000 tablets were out of stock nationwide as of October 25th, according to the Ministry of Education & Science of Ukraine.

With the help of Microsoft’s software and HP’s laptop donations, more Ukrainian students will be able to communicate with teachers online and further their education.

The Ukraine National Identity through Youth (UNITY) initiative of USAID, in collaboration with SpivDiia, will distribute the laptops.

Through its online platform and network of 24 youth centers and youth-serving organizations, SpivDiia, a leading Ukrainian youth organization, has brought together volunteers, the government, and businesses to provide humanitarian aid and support services to civilians affected by the war.

It does this by connecting those in need with the institutions and resources that can assist them.
