Turkey, Kazakhstan mark 30 years of diplomatic ties

Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Turkey released a statement on Thursday to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

President Erdogan visited Kazakhstan from October 12–13, 2022, at President Tokayev’s invitation. As part of Erdogan’s visit to Kazakhstan, the fourth meeting of the Turkey-Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council was held. It was a significant milestone in advancing bilateral relations.

Tokayev and Erdogan issued a joint statement saying they share the same opinion that such diplomatic visits will boost the political dialogue, as well as strengthen the Enhanced Strategic Cooperation (ESC) between the two nations.

Erdogan and Tokayev addressed ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation during their conversations, which were held in an environment of friendship and understanding, and they also discussed current regional and global challenges.

The presidents emphasized that Turkey was Kazakhstan’s fifth-largest trading partner in 2021 and expressed satisfaction with the constant growth in bilateral trade while stating that the required steps should be done to raise trade to $10 billion in a balanced way over the ensuing years.

Additionally, they decided to promote the expansion of freight transportation via the Trans-Caspian East-West Central Corridor in order to deepen their collaboration in the areas of logistics and transportation.

Additionally, the presidents decided to intensify their cooperation by working together on human resources programs to help young people and public servants in their career development.

Finally, both Erdogan and Tokayev reiterated in their joint comments their desire to strengthen the collaboration that would support regional peace and stability as well as continue the ESC between Kazakhstan and Turkey.
