Moldova and Romania are set to construct a 261-meter-long bridge that will extend over the Prut River and connects the two countries, SeeNews reported.
The new road bridge construction will be made possible with a €16.5 million grant approved by the European Commission (EC).
According to a statement released by the government of Romania, as well as the secretary for the ministry of transport Ionel Scriosteanu, the governments will issue a tendering call very soon.
The newly constructed bridge will connect the Romanian village of Ungheni to the Moldovan town of Ungheni sitting on the border between the two nations.
According to Scriosteanu, the bridge is expected to be completed within 43 months from the start of its construction, and the estimated cost for it amounts to €33 million.
Both Romania and Moldova will contribute as co-financiers in addition to European funds.
The new bridge is part of the A8 Motorway project in Romania.
Under the Connecting Europe Facility, an EU fund launched in 2014 for infrastructural development throughout the union in transport, energy, digital, and communications sectors, Moldova and Romania signed a contract in February to work together to build the bridge.
