Kyrgyzstan Increases Volume of Road and Air Cargo Transportation

Kyrgyzstan has increased the volume of cargo transportation by all means of transport by almost 30 percent, amounting to 44.3 million tons from January through December 2022 from 34.1 million tons in the same period of 2021, the statistical data of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) shows.

Kyrgyzstan’s cargo transportation via pipelines in 2022 made up 300,000 tons, according to the statistics, which also show a 4 percent increase in cargo transportation by railways in Kyrgyzstan, amounting to 8 million from 7.7 million tons in the reporting period in 2021.

The volume of cargo transported by road transportation in Kyrgyzstan increased by 37 percent over 2021 (26.2 million tons), amounting to 35.9 million tons whereas, at the same time, the volume of transportation by air transport only made 300 kg, which is a decrease from 400 kg in 2021.

In 2022, the first place in terms of cargo transportation among the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) members was, notably, taken by Russia whose cargo transportation amounted to 7.9 billion tons, followed by Kazakhstan with 3.8 billion tons.

Previously in January, the State Agency for Civil Aviation under the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan published information according to which the volumes shipped by air from Kyrgyzstan actually increased in 2022.

According to the agency’s data, the volume of cargo transported by air from Kyrgyzstan in 2022 increased by 56.4 percent compared to 2021 (23,608 tons) to a total of 36,935 tons, while in 2020 it was only 15,253 tons.

During the last year, the main destinations for regular cargo flights from Kyrgyzstan were Istanbul, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Ashgabat.

On top of the contracts with the neighboring countries Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and China, Kyrgyzstan has concluded agreements on air communication with 30 states to date.
