The United States and NATO, the military bloc of which Croatia is also a member, are waging a proxy war against Moscow through Ukraine, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has claimed as quoted by media outlet Istra24.
Milanovic, who spoke to Croatian reporters on Sunday in the city of Vukovar, blasted NATO, among other things, voicing his frustration with the US-led military bloc’s policies that drag them from war to war.
Stressing that he does not want to be an American slave, Croatia’s president asked rhetorically what he should be, dismissing the sanctions against Russia as nonsense since they’ll achieve nothing, let alone help them remove Vladimir Putin.
In the same interview, Milanovic condemned Andrej Plenkovic, Croatia’s prime minister, over his latest remarks related to Ukraine during the interview he gave the France 24 news channel on Saturday.
Plenkovic pointed out in his statement that Croatian lawmakers who didn’t support the EU’s program in mid-December to train Ukrainian military personnel in member states failed to be on the right side of history, noting that they bear the responsibility of a historic mischoice.
Arguing that this kind of behavior reaches a new low, Milanovic slammed Croatia’s PM for bringing “disgrace” to his country and to its democratic representatives with his remarks.
Commenting on the European Union’s mission, he warned that it goes against the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union since, as he argues, it effectively means that the bloc is participating in a war for the first time in its history.
Back in December 2022, Milanovic also criticized as cynical Brussels’ decision made last June to grant Ukraine candidate status, noting at the time that Kyiv is not an ally, and argued that having Ukrainian servicemen train on Croatian soil would bring the war to his country.
