Social housing will be used as a temporary home for internally displaced people with special needs from all across Ukraine who were affected by the war and require long-term rehabilitation, according to a news release.

For the construction of social housing in Lviv, the EU would allot EUR 19,5 million. Prior to the start of the winter of 2023, two eight-story structures will be built close to the social rehabilitation center.

On  December 19, in Brussels, the European Commission and the Lviv City Council signed the relevant Grant Agreement.

Katarna Mathernová the head of the support group for Ukraine and the Deputy Director General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations stated that the EU has committed major funding to the construction of housing for internally displaced people from war-torn areas. The goal of this initiative is to work together to expand the UNBROKEN program in Lviv in order to aid in the rehabilitation of those who have been injured by Russian aggression.

The international competition for the architectural design of this house will close on December 23. Since this is an emergency initiative that must be completed as soon as possible, the architects are required to provide high-quality projects that can be realized swiftly, according to Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.

As a part of the EU’s emergency support package to deal with the effects of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, this funding agreement was inked.
