Tajikistan, Belarus discuss cooperation on rawhide processing

A new area of shared interest between Belarus and Tajikistan is the processing of rawhide. According to Tatiana Lugina, head of the Belarusian light industry company Bellegprom, specialists from Belarus are traveling to Tajikistan to investigate the potential of the country’s natural resources and the viability of establishing a joint production facility.

She claimed that one of the important sectors in Tajikistan’s growth plan was light manufacturing. In order to coordinate the improved processing of leather raw materials, Tajikistan wrote to Belarus and requested assistance.

Two professionals from Belarus will visit Tajikistan in the near future, where monitoring will take place there. According to Tatiana Lugina, head of the Belarusian light industry Bellegprom, Tajikistan has a large amount of raw leather: 1,500 cattle are raised there a year and their rawhides may be utilized as material.

According to Lugina, however, such raw resources are not deeply processed in the nation. The rawhides are just lightly processed before being shipped to China. Consequently, they have a strong interest in starting deep processing in their nation. During their meeting in Dushanbe with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, the president of Tajikistan discussed this.

Still, processing of leather items is a skill that Belarusians possess, Lugina says.

“We have set a short-term goal to examine the kind of skins, their quality, and their thickness. We will see if we can help our counterparts build a business in processing wet-salted hides and making finished leather goods. Perhaps it will come in handy for us to diversify our assortment of finished leather,” said the Bellegprom head.

The Bellegprom executive highlighted that Belarusian experts are always welcome in Tajikistan when discussing the country in general. She also believes that there are many parallels between the populations of Tajikistan and Belarus, including the fact that both populations are nice, honest, industrious, and open to collaboration.
