The construction of a new subway station in Yerevan’s neighborhood Ajapnyak is underway, the prime minister announced today during a government session, local outlets report.

PM Nikol Pashinyan stated that design work has begun and a tender has been released publicly.

At Monday’s session, the government agreed to acquire heavy-duty tunnel ventilation systems and SP-6 conveyor replacement parts for the Yerevan Metro. The previous heavy-duty ventilators of the Yerevan subway were fully installed in 1980.

As they have been used for over 40 years, the ventilation systems are worn out and need replacement.

“We are completing the first stage of the design process and, according to the plan, we will have the project ready by the end of 2023 and will have the opportunity to announce a construction tender,” the Prime Minister stated.

“I hope the deadlines will not be violated, and in 2024 we should start the construction of Ajapnyak station,” Pashinyan underlined.
