Ukraine, Russia successfully swap 50 war prisoners

A total of 50 Ukrainian military personnel have been freed from Russian captivity, including 33 officers, 17 privates, and 17 sergeants, Kiyv Post reports.

According to VOA, each Sunday, Russia and Ukraine would exchange 50 captured troops in an agreement that both sides applauded despite ongoing hostilities in eastern Ukraine.

The 50 repatriated Russian servicemen, according to the Russian defense ministry, would be transported to Moscow for medical and psychological rehabilitation.

Ukraine corroborated the information and said that 50 Ukrainian military personnel had been released by Russia as part of the same agreement.

“Another successful POWs (prisoners of war) swap. 50 Ukrainian soldiers are back,” Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential office said on Twitter. “To be continued. We must bring all our people home, and we are on it.”

Yermak shared pictures of the liberated Ukrainian troops clutching food bags near the bus they were ready to board as well as a video of them singing the national song of their country while traveling.
