Lithuanian foreign minister: Kazakhstan is a significant trade partner

According to the Akorda press service, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis stated that Kazakhstan is a significant trade and economic partner in Central Asia during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on December 7 in Astana, The Astana Times reports.

In extending his welcome to the ambassador from Lithuania, Tokayev referred to Lithuania as one of Kazakhstan’s top allies in the Baltic States and the EU.

In their conversation, Tokayev and Landsbergis focused on advancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation as well as communication within international organizations as they discussed global challenges and the advancement of Kazakh-Lithuanian relations.

The parties underlined their commitment to enhancing intergovernmental collaboration and expanding economic exchanges between the two nations’ corporate communities in the manufacturing, transportation, and logistics sectors.

On December 6, Landsbergis also had a meeting with Mukhtar Tileuberdi, the Kazakh minister of foreign affairs, while in Astana on business. They talked on the political, commercial, economic, cultural, and humanitarian facets of Kazakh-Lithuanian cooperation.

Deputies from the Mazhilis, the Kazakh Parliament’s lower house, were invited to the meeting, and both parties decided to advance interparliamentary collaboration, fortify bilateral connections, and implement agreements achieved between the states.

Compared to the same time in 2021, the bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Lithuania increased by more than 200 percent to $500.4 million in the first nine months of 2022. In Kazakhstan, around 170 Lithuanian businesses are active.
