Kazakh pharma company SANTO to expand R&D in Central Asia

SANTO, a dominant player in the pharma industry in Kazakhstan, announced its new plans for a center for research and development, its scientific research facility, and its manufacturing facility, which produces a variety of drugs that meet or exceed European quality requirements, The Astana Times reported.

Iveta Dance, Head of Research and Development and Project Management at SANTO, claimed that as part of long-term contracts made with SK Pharmacy, the company provides pharmaceutical drugs made in Kazakhstan to treat patients as part of the guaranteed volume of free medical care and the mandatory medical insurance system.

Shymkent is home to the pharmaceutical company’s own research and development facility. It is a one-of-a-kind center for the nation’s pharmaceutical business, engaged in all phases of revolutionary medicine research, including producing a “pilot series for clinical trials, drug registration,” and the corresponding implementation of new technologies in manufacturing.

Dance emphasized that the company invests much in specialists’ professional development in addition to expanding and updating the R&D hub.

“We hire highly competent and professionally trained people. We are building a new laboratory as well as new manufacturing facilities. The overall cost of the investment project is estimated at nearly $108 million, where $12 million will be spent to establish an R&D center and a new quality control laboratory,” Dance said.

She asserts that the nation’s legislation mandates that production quality adheres to the Eurasian Economic Union’s (EAEU) good manufacturing practice (GMP) requirements.

As the first business to successfully complete the EAEU inspection process, it received a new GMP certificate attesting to its compliance with both national and EAEU standards.

With the help of the R&D center, Kazakhstan will produce cutting-edge drugs.

As of 2018, the firm has 20 items in development, and that number will rise to 27 by 2022, according to Dance.
